I'm A Winner!

I have been fortunate enough to win a few giveaways/contests lately and thought I would do a quick review!

First up is this awesome classroom management packet to go with my Hollywood/movie theme from Mrs. Jones!  She did a great job!  This kit would be a great purchase if you are doing this theme.  She has other themes available as well.

Next I won, not once, but TWICE over at Mrs. Stanford's Class!

I won a free product from Tori over at Tori's Teacher Tips.  I picked out the Math Daily 3 resource since I love Daily 5 so much and have wanted to figure out how to do something similar for math.  This pack is great to get you started!  I can't wait to try this out this year!

I haven't heard what my other prize is but I'll keep you posted!

As I was writing this, I finally got one of Shuna's riddles!  So I have her animal unit coming!  I can't wait!

I have a few fun things coming up too!

I can't wait to do this postcard exchange!  We still need a few states so click the picture to see if you can join us!

Room Sneak Peek

I have always envied the truly themed rooms that I see all over the place.  I would love to just jump in an go full themed.  That however is too expensive for me so I'm going with a more gradual approach.  Here are some of the things I have already done to go with my Hollywood/movie theme.

This is my environmental print board.  I have created boxes that resemble real candy boxes and used fonts to match to add students names to this board as well.  I will have to try to get a picture of them.

I created a set of alphabet posters to go with the theme.  Unfortunately the school color printer came out really dark so you can't see the letters very well.  I am going to add some foam letters to them to make it pop out better.  They are super cute though.  Each one has a kid movie that start with that letter.  A few took some googling to figure out! : )  I am going to put the popcorn words on clothespins and hang them on the ribbon under the letters.

The next set of pictures are not truly Hollywood/movie themed.  But they are more cleaned up and made to match more.

These are my leveled readers.  I have a love/hate relationship with this shelf.  It is low and easy for my kids to access.  But look at it!!  It is ugly.  Do you see the green part between J and K where the paint has peeled?  UGLY!  I plan to paint the whole thing (and all my other shelves) black when I can get back into my room.

This board holds our word attack strategies and the beanie babies that go with them.  Still needs a cute header and an eagle beanie.  Again I don't have $10 to spend on a stuffed animal so thrift store searching continues.

Another revamped bulletin board.  This has my voice level chart, high five reward system I posted about previously, and the PBS expectations for my class.

I LOVE this board!  It is contact paper on my white board.  It was such a pain to put on but it looks so nice!  I posted the FACES headers here.

Well that is all I have for pictures for now.  I'll take more when I get back into my room!

My New Favorite ECard

I'm sure you've seen this one around.  I thought it was pretty funny on its own.  Then I realized my district is actually offering a Pinterest class during profession development this summer!  So see...it really is like work for me : )

I hope to post up some pictures of some changes I've made in my room and offer some new freebies soon.  we switched from Hp's to Mac's in our district so I am trying to learn how to convert my publisher files and what Mac programs will work for me to create in.  If anyone uses Mac's and can tell me what programs they use, I would appreciate it!  I hope everyone is enjoying a Pinteresting summer!

Amazing Pencil Sharpener!

classroom-friendly-pencil-sharpener.jpg
Have you already heard about these?  I certainly had and I really wanted one.  I begged for one for my upcoming birthday.  My husband thought I was crazy.  Then lucky me, Troy from Classroom Friendly Supplies sent me one to review!  Needless to say, there was an extreme happy dance at the mailbox when it arrived.

So here's my opinion on this pencil sharpener.  It is everything it claims to be on the website.  It is really quiet and sharpens pencils perfectly.  I cannot wait to have my 25 Kindergarten kiddos use it.  No more having to wait until someone is done sharpening their pencil to hear the student I am conferencing with.

A few things I do want to note.  The sharpener pictured above is intended only for regular pencils.  Colored pencils do not sharpen in it.  (One of coworkers tested that out!)  The specifics on the website state it is for standard pencils so it is not misleading.  I do think it will take a little training for my little ones to get the hang of how to use it (mainly inserting the pencil using the clamp) but they certainly will be able to.  My own almost 2 year old could turn the handle so once I've shown them how to get it in it should be a snap.

Overall, I have to say I LOVE this pencil sharpener.  I will definitely be looking to buy a couple more for my room.  I'm curious about the car sharpener as it works on colored pencils as well.  I highly recommend buying one (or 3!) of these!  They are a teacher's dream come true!  So head over to Classroom Friendly Supplies and check them out!

Easter Egg Word Families Sheet (freebie)

Everyone has seen the Easter egg word families on the web or on Pinterest, I'm sure.  It is certainly not a new idea.  One of my coworker asked oh so nicely if I would make a recording sheet for her set.  I was happy to oblige.  Since it was all made up, I thought I would share it with you all.

The simple idea is to write with sharpie on plastic Easter eggs.  On one end, you will write the word ending (at, an, it, etc.)  Then there are a couple of options for the other end.  You can write a different letter on each long end to have students match to make a word.  Or you can write multiple letters around the long end and students can twist to match and make a word.

For the recording sheet, the students will write the real words on the eggs in the correct nest.

Click on the picture to go to my TN shop and grab it for free!

As always, if you want the editable version so you can add your own word families, leave a comment with your email address or email me.

Let me know if you are able to use this!
